Aging is
Beautiful.

Aging gracefully is something we should celebrate – but of course, none of us want to show visible signs of aging prematurely!

Aging is
a privilege.

The fine lines, wrinkles, and grooves on our skin tell the story of our lives. But what causes them and why does everybody age differently?

Visible skin changes – or aging, is caused by the destruction of the collagen & elastin matrix in our skin’s second layer, the dermis.

The dermis layer acts as support pillars so when the foundation crumbles so does the house that sits on top. As we age, the foundational dermis layer loses its overall thickness, sturdiness and elasticity because our elastin and collagen matrix becomes weaker and weaker with time.

And that’s how it works.

When we say “aging in the skin” it’s a euphemism for “destruction of living cells” and it gets progressivley faster as we age. Starting around the age of 18, we lose about 1% of collagen + elastin every year, at around 30 we’re losing 1.5% of collagen + elastin every year and by the time we reach 40, we’re losing 2%. We lose about 10% of skin thickness every 10 years. By 50, that plump, bouncy skin we knew and loved in our teens is dryer, more brittle, showing visible grooves, lines and sagging.

Yes, aging is as inevitable as time and gravity but the good news is we do have some control and can dramatically stall the aging process!

We can slow down this acceleration by minimizing negative environmental factors…

Sun damage
Sun damage

UV rays easily penetrate the epidermis layer and destroy the collagen + elastin matrix. It’s like sugar dissolving in water.

Lack of sleep

When we sleep we heal. If we don’t get enough sleep, our bodies, including our skin cells cannot recover properly.

Lack of essential nutrients

Our skin cells are alive and require nutrients to thrive. Many skin care products contain a useless petroleum base that covers our skin’s top layer and only makes us feel hydrated but does not deliver very essential micronutrients to the skin.

Alcohol

Moderate drinking is not a major issue as long we hydrate properly, so enjoy that glass of wine. As for heavy drinking...well at that point our skin is the least of our worries.

Smoking

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Smoking kills all living cells and skin cells are no exception.

These lifestyle & environmental factors drive 3 primary mechanisms of aging. To deliver a groundbreaking solution, we needed to deeply understand these problems:

Aging is
